Layaway Days: Art collecting on a Budget
In May, my best friends and their two children arrived for a visit. They spent the better part of two days making the journey from Calgary, Canada to Seattle, in a semi-functional Westfalia. As we took them upstairs for the first time, my friend commented that he recognized the painting at the top of our stairs. My initial reaction was to dismiss this, as I didn’t really know he was an art fan, but sure enough, he opened his Instagram and he followed the artist. The artist was my favorite artist, Alpay Efe.
Alpay Efe is a German painter that I became familiar with, after seeing his feature on the ‘Artist A Day’ website. I was in awe of ‘In limbo’, one of the featured paintings. It wasn’t long until I began corresponding with Alpay over Facebook and was eventually able to purchase a painting (on layaway!). One of my favorite aspects of Alpay’s work, is that he is always innovating. Some artist’s work remains fairly stagnant, once they’ve achieved success, however, Alpay keeps progressing and moving in new directions. The work that he produced three years ago, differs from the work produced today, and will differ from the work produced three years from now.
Alpay recently released his first print, via Static Medium. Amalgamate A.A. measures 20”x 20” and costs $85. There are still a few remaining, but it’s a small 40 piece edition, so act fast. If interested in purchasing a print, click on the image to be redirected to the Static Medium website

Here's a video of the painting, I previously referenced.
Art isn't purchased at big-box stores. This blog is for collectors like me, who collect on a budget.
