I am excited to announce that my latest layaway, arrived this afternoon. When I first saw ‘Princesa de Barrio #8’ by Alejandro Carpintero, my heart skipped a beat. And while it’s a safe assumption that my years of Dairy Queen abuse, may be the cause, I promise it was the painting. I am a sucker for hot pink and this piece delivers.
When I view this piece, I am reminded of the movie ‘City of God’. There is a certain coming of age story being told. These are the last days of innocence, before alcohol, drugs, sex, college, jobs, kids, etc…where one can truly be free. The most important moments occurred, when one was present, in the moment.
One of the major surprises I found with this piece, was that the painting was three dimensional. The scrunchies in the subject’s hair and on her arms, were made of a type of foam and the paints varied, providing a textured aesthetic.
I am absolutely over the moon.
Thank you Alejandro, my friend!
PS. Two more originals are currently on layaway, by two fabulous female artists. I can’t wait to show you all!
Art isn't purchased at big-box stores. This blog is for collectors like me, who collect on a budget.
